We can all feel it, the end of year ‘slowdown’ for the Festive Season is upon us and everyone just seems to be hanging on by their toenails. Clients don’t seem to be capable of making decisions or they do not have the budget to do so. Here are some tips on how to stay motivated until you go on leave as this ‘quiet period’ shouldn’t go to waste.
Is your Filing and Admin up to date?
Use this time to sort out those piles of paperwork that have been gathering and hiding in your cupboard for several months now. This is an amazingly cathartic experience and it will allow you to start the New Year with no stray papers lying around. It is also good to put an admin/filing process in the place for the following year.
Are your Databases or CRM systems up to date?
This is a good time to phone all of your clients and business partners to wish them all personally for the Festive Season. Use this time to update any of their information and potentially set up meetings for the New Year. You will be amazed at how effective that personal call can be.
Make sure that your Personal Admin is in order
Have you been meaning to pay your TV Licence for a while now? Do you need to change your Cell Phone number at the Bank? Is your car’s licence disc up to date? These are the things you could be using your lunch hour to sort out. We all know how busy we get during a regular work day, so take advantage of the lull and get a task done a day.
Is your Personal Documentation in place?
Do you have a will set up and if so where is it kept? Is your CV up to date with all of the achievements and accreditations you earned over the past year? Is the Electricity bill in your name or still the previous owner’s name? These are all vitally important documents that need to be kept up to date and in easy to find places.
Get to know your Colleagues
This time of the year is a great time to get to know your colleagues a little bit better. Invite them out for a coffee or lunch and you will be amazed as you hear about their hobbies and personal lives. You may have more in common that you initially thought!
So it’s not all doom and gloom if you are left to ‘Man the Fort’ during the Festive Season. There are lots of things that you can do to be a step ahead of the rest of the pack in January.
